#267 From Special Ops to Archery: How Jason McCoy Helps Veterans Overcome PTSD

Jason McCoy’s Journey: Military Service, Deployment, and Mental Health

Growing up in Louisiana, Jason McCoy was inspired by a family legacy of military service. He joined the Air Force, where he served in various roles, including Security Forces and OSI counterintelligence operations. His deployments, particularly during the turbulence of Afghanistan combat operations, took a toll on his mental and physical health.

Returning home, Jason struggled with PTSD, chronic injuries, and the mental burden of transition—a challenge familiar to many special operations forces (SOF), Green Berets, and combat veterans. He recognized the symptoms he had once learned about in military briefings and took the courageous step of seeking mental health support.

💡 Key Takeaways:

✔ How PTSD affects veterans and first responders after combat deployments.

✔ Why mental health support and therapy are essential in the transition journey.

✔ The power of self-awareness in recognizing the need for healing and recovery.

Discovering Archery: A Path to Healing and Purpose

Jason’s breakthrough moment came unexpectedly—at the archery range. He recalls a defining moment when, for the first time in eight months, he felt mental clarity and relief from his trauma. Archery became his therapy, providing both focus and mindfulness that helped him reclaim control over his thoughts and emotions.

Inspired by this experience, Jason co-founded ENDEX Archery, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans, first responders, and special operations personnel find healing through archery. The organization provides mentorship, equipment, and community support, fostering an environment where veterans can connect, heal, and regain a sense of purpose.

🏹 How Archery Helps Veterans:

✔ Improves focus and mindfulness, reducing PTSD symptoms.

✔ Builds a supportive community of like-minded individuals.

✔ Creates a structured and therapeutic outlet for stress relief.
